Indoor Guard Guidelines
Indoor Guard will be classified by age level, with all Junior High/Middle School units in one division and all High School units in a separate division.
Clinics are not provided for Indoor Guard Performances.
Contest Site
For the purpose of interpretation, the “contest floor” shall measure fifty-five by eighty (55’ x 80’) feet. The “competition area” shall be the entire gym floor and surrounding area in which the guard competes. Units are permitted to utilize the entire competition area for their performance, but must be prepared to perform in a 55’ x 80’ floor. The circumference of the center of the circle of a basketball court will be marked, and will have a diameter of twelve (12’) feet. If your guard is utilizing a mat for the floor, please inform your program director during scheduling.
At select locations, the gym floor may already be covered with a protective mat. Please contact your Program Director with any questions.
Any damage to the gym floor is the responsibility of the performing unit.
Timing
The total time for a guard in the competition area, including entry and exit of the last member from the competition area, including removal of all equipment, props, etc. is fifteen (15) minutes. Maximum performance time is eight (8) minutes.
Entrance & Exit
A unit may enter the competition area over any line until the start of judging, after which the front sideline is inviolate. The front sideline is inviolate at all times except during set up and tear down.
Any equipment/props may be placed in the competition area by anyone prior to the start of a competition. All wheels and sharp edges must be taped properly. Participating units will be held financially responsible for any damage to gym floors due to improperly taped equipment, props and carts.
